Alničje

Description of peak:
Alničje is a 1145 m high ridge rising from the SW above the settlements of Koroška bela and Javornik in Jesenik, and running NE in the direction of mountain pasture Stamare, and ends on a grassy saddle below the southern slope of Debele Brdo in Karawanks, where there is a bench with a registration book, an emergency shelter from storms, and a small older dilapidated hut.
According to the locals, these, already extremely steep slopes of Alničje and the neighbouring Debelega brdo used to be used for mowing the grass with a pair of toe-pruners. The forests here are protected by their status, which means that clearing is not allowed, in order to protect them from avalanches, landslides, etc. It is here - to the east of Alničje - that a natural disaster similar to the one we witnessed a few years ago in Log pod Mangartom has occurred at least once in history. At that time, the village of Koroška Bílá was floded by a debris flow - an avalanche.
Today, the saddle, which is named after the Alničje hill, is mainly a quiet excursion point for hikers who like pleasant side paths or interesting destinations near marked trails.
