Description of lake:
Bukovniško jezero is located in the south-east of Goričko and is 500 m long, up to 200 m wide and more than 5 m deep at its deepest part, but otherwise between 2 and 3 m. The lake was created in the middle of the 20th century when the Bukovnik Stream was dammed. The original purpose of the barrier was to stop mainly high spring waters and to use the water for irrigation of fields in times of drought. The latter was never realised, as fishermen started to use the lake for fish farming in standing water.
Today, a forest nature trail of just under 2 km runs around the lake, which is a well-known tourist spot, and tourist fishing has developed along the lake. The area around the lake is also known as an energy point, and there is a healing spring near the nearby church of St. Vid, which helps with head problems, especially vision and hearing.
